NEW YORK, NY (NOVEMBER 3, 2021) – Two property managers from FirstService Residential, the leading residential management company in New York City, were honored with SiteCompli Checkmark Awards recognizing their commitment to serving the condominium and cooperative board members and residents under their care. Managing Director Ed Ermler and Senior Property Manager Virginia Manning received 2021 Checkmark Awards at SiteCompli’s 2021 RealFocus conference.

Established in 2017, the Checkmark Awards highlight outstanding organizations and individuals in property management that set a high bar in regard to industry standards and best practices in the New York region.

“FirstService Residential has set the standard for quality and service excellence and we never stop seeking ways to make our services even better. This commitment begins with empowering each of our property managers with unrivaled resources, administrative support, and best-in-class training programs for day-to-day operations and emergency scenarios,” said FirstService Residential President Dan Wurtzel. “It’s a true honor to see our property managers excel in the field and get recognized by industry-leading organizations like SiteCompli.”

It’s rare for a property manager to have experience as an electrical engineer and a co-op board president. Ed Ermler has these rarely coupled credentials, which makes him an invaluable asset to his team of property managers and the buildings they oversee. Ermler’s unique experience affords him a deeper understanding of building equipment performance and best practices for board members to protect or enhance their facilities. His expertise also helps instill trust in the boards under his care who rely on him and his team of property managers to do what’s best for the building over the long-term.

“Beyond his expertise, Ed is an exemplary team player and collaborates with property managers on and off his team for a multitude of complicated projects,” said Stephanie Cardello, vice president of compliance at FirstService Residential. “From facade repairs and building leaks, to cooling tower installations and boiler replacement projects, Ed is always willing to help his co-workers and often jumps in to assist, as if the building were his own residence.”

Virginia Manning was recently appointed to manage a new condominium property that was experiencing a difficult transition from sponsor to board control. Manning was able to quickly assess where the process had gone wrong, mitigate financial damages and compliance issues, and most importantly, repair the unit owners’ trust in the board and the incoming management team. Manning went above and beyond to ensure the board was fully informed throughout the transition process which included numerous informational sessions with leaders from FirstService Residential’s in-house compliance, finance, tax, and property management divisions. The goal was to instill trust and buy-in from the board and the unit owners during a particularly sensitive time.

“Under Virginia’s lead, our team was able to recover thousands of dollars in tax abatement credits that the board and owners feared was lost due to major oversight by the previous management company,” said Christina Forbes, vice president of the Manhattan property management division at FirstService Residential. “Virginia is one of our strongest property managers for truly caring about our clients and the buildings we manage, in addition to her aptitude to adapt to the many new laws and regulations in New York City.”
